RESUMO

Continued collecting efforts at the Jiulong National Wetland Park, Zhejiang, East China revealed two additional species of the ant-loving beetle subfamily Pselaphinae (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae): Trisiniotus jiulong sp. nov. and Arthromelodes lianghongbini sp. nov. Both new species are diagnosed, described, and their important characters are illustrated.

RESUMO

Prior to this study, no species of Pseudophanias Raffray had been reported from Nanling, a vast biodiversity conservation area that spans five provinces in southern China. In this paper, three new species of the genus are described: Pseudophaniasfurcilobussp. nov. (Guizhou, Guangxi), P.leigongsp. nov. (Guizhou), and P.mulunsp. nov. (Guangxi), suggesting that additional study on the diversity of this group in the area is required. These species are characterized, keyed, and compared to similar congeners, supplemented with illustrations of the habitus and other morphological characters.

RESUMO

A new species of the small pselaphine genus Tyrodes Raffray (Pselaphitae: Tyrini), T. tibialis sp. nov., is described and illustrated from Guangxi, southwestern China. This species can be separated from its congeners mainly by the aedeagal characters as well as by the modified sternite 2 (V), and presence of a preapical projection of the metatibiae.

RESUMO

Physomerinusjiulongensissp. nov. is described from a series of overwintering individuals collected in decomposing wood at Jiulong National Wetland Park, East China. The new species is characterized and separated from related congeners by the unique form of the sexually dimorphic maxillary palpi, greatly swollen male metafemora, as well as by the shape of the genitalia of both sexes. A key to, and a distributional map of, Physomerinus species occurring in China and on the Ryukyu Islands, Japan is provided.

RESUMO

The pselaphine genus Pakistatyrus Hlavác (Pselaphitae: Tyrini) is represented by two species distributed in high mountain areas of the Himalaya. Here a third species, P. schmidti sp. nov., is described from Nepal. The species is characterized by the simple male antennae, large foveae of the pronotum and elytra, greatly reduced elytra, and conspicuously asymmetric aedeagus. A key to and an updated distribution map of the species of Pakistatyrus is provided.

RESUMO

The myrmecophilous clavigerite Anaclasiger zhudaiae Yin & Huang is known from a single female collected in Guangdong, southern China. Here, I report the discovery of this species in Hunan, central China, associated with Nylanderia flaviabdominis (Wang) ants, which extends its range approximately 630 km northward from the type locality. The male is described for the first time, and the habitus and other major diagnostic characters are illustrated. Ex-situ photographs of living beetles and a map showing the distribution of Anaclasiger Raffray are provided.

RESUMO

The extinct members of the ant-like stone beetle supertribe Mastigitae are among the best studied groups of all fossil Scydmaeninae, and their evolutionary history can be traced from the latest Albian to the earliest Cenomanian through Miocene/Oligocene, with seven extinct genera being described (summarized in Jaoszyski, 2016; Jaoszyski & Perkovsky, 2016; Jaoszyski et al., 2018; Ross, 20192022 (list of Burmese amber taxa)).

RESUMO

The Pselaphinae fauna of Hubei Province in central China is extremely poorly documented. Here we describe two new species recently collected at a riverbank near Chongyangs county seat. Batrisiella riparia sp. nov. is characterized by the greatly swollen metafemora of the male, and Nipponobythus varicornis sp. nov. has a darkish-colored body, and uniquely modified male antennal clubs and metaventrite. Illustrations of the habitus and taxonomically informative characters of both species are provided for a reliable identification.

RESUMO

The C. lustricollis group of the scydmaenine genus Cephennodes Reitter was previously represented by three species distributed in northern Vietnam and China (Hong Kong and Guizhou). Here we describe a fourth member, Cephennodes gusu sp. nov., collected from Qionglong Mountain, Suzhou, eastern China. The new species is characterized by its moderately large body size, the punctation of the head, pronotum and elytra, and the structure of the aedeagus. It is also the first record of the subfamily Scydmaeninae in Jiangsu Province.

RESUMO

Schmidtinus annapurnensis Yin Kurbatov gen. et sp. nov. of the pselaphine tribe Batrisini is described from the Annapurna mountains of Nepal, with the habitus and major diagnostic features illustrated. The morphological features that distinguish Schmidtinus gen. nov. from related batrisine genera are discussed.

RESUMO

Pareburniola dominicana Zilberman, Yin & Cai gen. et. sp. nov. is the very first fossil record of the tribe Corotocini, reported from Miocene Dominican Republic amber. The new species, which is based on a stenogastric individual, is described and illustrated and is included in the subtribe Corotocina due to the combination of a tarsal formula 4-4-4, an elongated gula, a developed labial palp, a reduced fourth palpomere, separated metacoxae and a glandular structure on the posterior region of the head. Since the taxon belongs to the physogastric tribe Corotocini, which presents post-imaginal growth, this phenomenon is herein discussed, and its current knowledge is used to understand the possible outcomes during morphological changes in the fossil species.

RESUMO

The genus Trisiniotus Jeannel of the pselaphine tribe Batrisini comprises two species distributed in North India and southern Myanmar. Here, a third species, T.taoismus Feng & Yin sp. nov., is described from Mao-shan, Jiangsu Province, East China. The new species can be readily distinguished from both congeners by the unmodified male antennae.

RESUMO

The genus Pseudophanias Raffray includes 19 species distributed in the Oriental Region. Here, the first species from continental China, P.tianmuensis Yin & Zhao sp. nov., is described and illustrated from West Tianmu Mountain. This species can be readily separated from all congeners by the coarse vestiture, along with its male features. A previous key to Pseudophanias species of East and South Asia is modified to accommodate the new species.
